It has arrived! Last Stand Media now owns one of the latest technologies for independent filmmakers and videographers, the Redrock Mico M2 Cinema Lens Adapter. Current DV and HD video cameras suffer from the inability to get what is known as a shallow depth of field. The camcorders tiny CCD and CMOS sensors create an image that maintains a wide depth of field where most or the entire image is in focus. In some cases that is what you want, but film has historically used a shallow depth of field where only the subject was in focus.
This is used as an artistic way to draw the attention of the viewer to that point on the screen. This is what makes a film look like a film and your home camcorder look like, well ..... like amateur theater. The M2 along with 24 frame per second progressive recording and a proper gamma curve allows Last Stand Media to use 35mm cinema and still lenses to achieve the sought after film look at low cost to our customers. Why have your video look like uncle Bobs home movies when you can make it look like a Hollywood blockbuster. Here are some of the early screen shots from tests we have done with the adapter and Nikon 35mm lenses.

Last Stand Media now shoots in HD all the time with our new Canon XH-A1 professional camera. Even if the final output of your production will be in SD or DV, it pays to shoot at the highest possible resolution and down convert for an clean and crisp image. Also, post production is enhanced by doing things like color correction and compositing with media that has a higher bit depth and a larger color space then that of many DV cameras.
Last Stand Media still partners with local rental houses to rent the best equipment for your particular production, but for many events the canon XH-A1 is the right camera to use and having one in house allows us to be efficient at a lower cost to you.
